I am over chicklit... Book #17: The Love Academy

Ok, third time lucky? I was hoping so. I hadn’t been taken by Good in Bed, by Jennifer Weiner, nor with Because She Can, by Bridie Clark and as such my need for some decent chick lit had not been met. All hopes were resting on The Love Academy, by Belinda Jones.

Set in Venice – it’s got to be good. Going in as an undercover journalist – oh something has to go wrong... added drama. Italian accents... can’t beat ‘em (although the Irish do come close – just think PS:  I love you!).
But...OMG this was terrible! Journalist Kirsty Bailey (who writes for top quality magazine Heat - yes, say no more!) is sent to Venice to do an exposé on an Italian love academy which supposedly has a success rate of love, romance and happily ever after. Kirsty’s cynical editor however, is sure it’s simply an escort agency. An interesting idea for a story, but it just didn’t make any sense whatsoever. Kirsty signs her – and her brother - up for the week long academy, only to be paired with Italian partners who they enjoy daily excursions, evening dinners and poetry reading courses with. What’s the future in that?
None of the “Italians” speak in an Italian accent, she somehow manages to visit George Clooney at his Lake Como residence, and after six days in one of the most romantic cities in the world, Kirsty still hasn’t seen the iconic St Mark’s Square!
Thankfully, it’s now March and I am over chicklit! Unless any of you have some 5* recommendations...?
